Two spoiled rich people find themselves trapped on an empty passenger ship. Rollo decides to marry his sweetheart Betsy and sail to Honolulu. When she rejects him he decides to go alone but boards the wrong ship, the "Navigator" owned by Betsy's father. Unaware of this, Betsy boards the ship to look for her father. whom spies capture before cutting the ship loose. It drifts out to sea with the two socialites each unaware of there being anyone else on board. While it might not be one of Keaton's very best movies, "The Navigator" is a good comedy that has some great scenes. It never quite hits high gear the way that some of Buster's masterpieces do, but there is a good variety of material, and it is pleasant and funny to watch. <br/><br/>Keaton and Kathryn McGuire work together well, and their scenes together make up most of the movie, including some of the funniest parts. Their scenes in the ship's kitchen are especially good. The well-known scene of Buster going deep-sea diving is also very entertaining, and must have taken some real skill to film at the time.<br/><br/>This is one that any fan of Keaton or of silent comedy should enjoy. The Navigator with Buster Keaton and Kathryn Mcguire is a movie that'll hold your attention and have you laughing and rooting for them all the way. The comedic content and innocent humor is great and Keaton's clumsy portrayal of a good hearted millionaire is so likable. The film really is quite remarkable from the way it was filmed too. The underwater scene was very well done for 1924 and still is astonishing that they were able to film that underwater so well back then. At just sixty minutes this film is also great for those with drifting attentions because of its length. After it was over, I actually wished it kept going because I was enjoying it so much. This film is of great quality and has held up over time to still bring laughs to new generations.
